Teams & Registration

Ashburton Netball Clubs fields 15+ teams per season. And it takes a wonderful community of players, coaches, managers, supporters, umpires and committee members to participate in and run this great club. Find out about our teams and how to join and participate in this great community here.

Teams

Ashburton Netball Club enters teams into U9, U11, Junior and Open Saturday competitions:

U9-U11 Modified Competition

These competitions do not include finals with teams moving between sections over the season, if required. Ashy Teams typically remain unchanged during these competitions (we do not rebuild teams each season). The modified competition intends to support player skill, knowledge of the game and confidence.

The ANC Rotation Policy is in place to ensure that young players are given the opportunity to experience ALL positions and are evenly rotated on the bench.

Sub-Junior (U13), Junior and Open Age Competition

These competitions include finals, with grading occurring over the first 3 rounds of each season. ANC has the opportunity to provide information to WDNA to support the section our teams are placed in and coaches have the opportunity to share feedback with the committee prior to registration of teams with WDNA.

As this is domestic and club netball, while the rotation is not formally in place it is still encouraged that players are given the opportunity to move around positions and also fairly rotated on the bench.

Either prior to entry into the Sub-Junior section, ANC conducts Player and Team Grading to support the development of players. The ANC Player Development Policy and Process can be found here.

The first time you will use the Netball Connect app will be to register your player (over 18 they can register themselves). • Manage Teams
  • Register Players
  • View Draws & Ladders
  • Assign Scorers & Score
  • Mark Player Attendance
  • Receive WDNA notifications

Uniforms

All Ashy players are required to wear the Ashburton Netball Club uniform on game day. All uniform items can purchased directly from the Ashy Uniform Shop.

  • Playing dress or shorts and singlet,
  • White socks and appropriate footwear for outdoor courts.
  • Hair tied away from face to ensure clear visibility.

Which main uniform is worn is at the players own discretion and what is most comfortable for them. Other items such as the ANC Hoodie and Scarf are optional items.

There is no uniform requirement for coaches they are welcome to wear their own attire and wear ANC provided club wear (as and when it becomes available).

Any questions regarding uniforms are to be directed to ANC Uniform Coordinator via the Contacts Us form at the bottom of the page.

Coaches and Team Managers

Ashburton Netball Club relies on volunteers (often parents, older players/siblings) to support our teams. Every team is required to have at least 1 coach and 1 Team Manager.   The team manager is usually a parent of a player in the team and a Coach either a parent or someone connected to the club (eg a past or current player from another team). It’s a great way to get involved in the club and your local community. To find out more about the roles read here.

Code of Conduct

Ashburton Netball Club prides itself on creating a positive environment to experience the sport of netball where good sports and team players thrive.

Everyone plays a role in supporting players, however parents/guardians and other care-givers play a critical role.

All players (through their TM and Parents) are encouraged to be across the ‘Code of Behaviour’ and to be wonderful Ashburton Netball Club ambassadors on the court!

 Awards

Awards and trophies are given out at the end of each season. At the end of the Spring season a club presentation day event is held where milestone awards and player awards are distributed and volunteers are thanked. At the end of the Autumn season teams are encouraged to hold their own end of season activity.

  • U9 and U11 players all receive a participation medal (U9) and Trophy (U11).
  • Sub-junior, Junior and Open Teams two trophies are offered by the club. It is at the teams discretion whether the trophies are awarded and what they are awarded for. The Coach and TM can decide the awards or we encourage consultation with your families (and/or players depending on age). For example, each gameday the assigned scorer could vote (3,2,1) however it is important that each player has a family member give votes to ensure fairness.
  • Milestone awards are also provided to recognise number of games played for Ashburton Netball Club. When players are marked as attending TMs can access number of games played, but they may also manually record as well. Milestones are: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 – please note that these only relate to number of games played for Ashburton Netball Club.

The ANC Trophy Co-ordinator will communicate directly with TMs and Coaches.  Please ensure teams provide names of award recipients as requested as the committee cannot chase details. Questions regarding awards, milestones can be directed to ANC Trophy Coordinator via the Contact Us form at the bottom of the page.

Supporters/Spectators

The Ashburton Netball Club thrives on fostering a positive and supportive community, which includes parents and other supporters who attend the weekly games.

We encourage all parents/supporters to become familiar with the Netball Victoria Code of Conduct here are some other reminders to help your child and yourself enjoy community netball:

  • ANC Coaches are volunteers and are doing their best.  Please be kind and patient.
  • Umpires play a vital role in the game of netball.  They may not always get the decision right, but they are people and often young and developing umpires.  If you find yourself, or other parents verbalising frustrations – please remind them of this.  Ask your TM to visit the Control Box if there are issues with an umpire and they will send a supervisor to your court.
  • Please ensure your child is on time to games and also to trainings.  If you are going to be late or your child can’t attend, please advise well in advance.
  • In the car, to and from trainings and games take a positive approach, celebrate the things they did well (regardless of the game score) and ask them how they felt they played and what they might like to work on. This is particularly important for players who may be hard on themselves. There is something to celebrate and be proud of in every game!
  • If your child is criticizing other players, the coach or the umpires please don’t join in and certainly avoid voicing your frustrations in front of your child.
  • Please don’t discuss or criticise the body size, weight or appearance of other players, coaches or umpires. This does not help to foster good sports, respectful players or strong teammates.
  • If you have a complaint about other parents/supporters, your Team Manager or Coach that cannot be resolved with respectful communication, please contact ashburtonnetballclub@gmail.com so that we can support you and your child.
